Keep an eye on Moderna (MRNA).
After surging during the pandemic, the stock now trades at less than $43 a share.
However, it’s starting to see upside thanks to a few strong catalysts.
For one, Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison praised the potential of artificial intelligence in developing cancer vaccines. In fact, as noted by Investor’s Business Daily, “Ellison claimed using AI, a messenger RNA-based vaccine could be produced robotically in just 48 hours. Moderna is using its mRNA technology to develop a cancer vaccine in partnership with Merck. Moderna is using the same platform it used to create its Covid vaccine, Spikevax.”
Two, the company just received $590 million from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The company was tasked with developing an mRNA vaccine that protects against H5 and H7 avian influenzas—also known simply as bird flu.
And three, the company has a vaccine in Phase 3 trials for a norovirus.
According to CNBC, “Norovirus is a nasty stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhea. It’s highly contagious and can spread easily in nursing homes anddaycares, and on cruise ships. It’s generally a seasonal illness that’s more common in the winter months.”
Never a fun bug to have at all.
With regards to the Phase 3 trials, results are expected later this year, or by early 2026. “Moderna needs to see a certain number of cases before it can analyze the data and determine how well its vaccine works, putting the timeline in flux. The 25,000-person study is enrolling ahead of schedule, said Doran Fink, Moderna’s clinical therapeutic area head for gastrointestinal and bacterial pathogens,” added CNBC.
Again, keep an eye on MRNA. It could see good, near-term upside.
